Inbox+ is useful, but do not live there

Inbox+ collects your notifications: new chat messages, new tasks, tasks that are due. It is genuinely useful. Fun fact, the timestamp on those notifications exists because I suggested it on the feature board and they shipped it the next day. But a lot of people work out of Inbox+ all day, and I do not recommend it. Working in Inbox+ is almost no different from working in your email inbox, and your inbox is a to-do list someone else prepared. You should approach your work in the order you decide to take responsibility for it, not in the order messages happen to arrive.

Inbox+ notifications like email, do not live here Task view start here by due date Pipeline view firm overview by stage
Inbox+ is a to-do list someone else made. Run your day from the task view, and run the firm from the pipeline view.

Where to actually work: the task view

Start from your task list, sorted by what is due earliest. Assign tasks to yourself or your team, set urgency and status, and work top down. This is your personal "what do I do next" board, and it is where most preparers should spend their day.

And for the firm: the pipeline view

If you run the firm, the pipeline view is where you live. Every job is laid out by stage, so you can see who is where. During tax season you scroll it and immediately see that this client's 2025 return is in review and that one is still waiting on documents. Click into a job card to see everything connected to it, leave comments, or tag a teammate.

The half: the job card

The job card is the go-to place that connects every element of a job: documents, tasks, chats, and the client-facing status. You drop into it from the task view or the pipeline view when you need the full picture on one client.

The rule

Do not let notifications run your day. Inbox+ tells you what happened. Your task view and the pipeline view are where you decide what to do about it.
